I want to say - Yes! Unfortunately hypnosis is the same as any other tool; in the right hands and used in the right way then hypnotherapy is very safe. Is a scalpel safe? It depends on who is wielding it - a surgeon or a psychopath.
Hypnosis is used to bypass the logical, reasoning, conscious element of your brain in order to communicate directly with your subconscious. Your subconscious is a very powerful force on its own and monitors all of your actions and even controls those actions you don't even think about, such as heartbeat, breathing, listening etc. 90% of everything you do is controlled by your subconscious without you having to consciously think about it!
By using hypnosis in a positive and professional manner it is possible to change all sorts of things within a person, therefore it stands to reason that somebody who is incompetent at using hypnosis could cause some dangerous reactions. Under test conditions it has been proved that a person in hypnosis when told they are going to be touched with a lighted cigarette on the back of their hand, a blister was formed even though they were really touched with nothing more than a pencil.
