 Absolutely! That is why you are going to a hypnotist. If you had the ability to make the changes you wanted without the intervention of a hypnotist then you would change, unfortunately most people are unable to make direct suggestions to their own subconscious until they have been taught how to bypass their own critical reasoning faculty. That would be rather like a barber trying to cut his own hair!
Hypnotherapy is dependent upon the client allowing their subconscious mind to work for them. If the hypnotherapist's suggestions are acceptable and beneficial to the client then the subconscious mind will allow the suggestion to be acted upon effectively. In short, you cannot be forced to do anything that goes against your belief system.
